Reset the in-game hand-held maps?

  • #1 Mar 15, 2016

On the server-side and single-player side. I have been looking around for resetting maps and all I seem to be able to find is how to reset the whole playable map itself, which is not what I wanted, at all. I know how to reset a world map . I want to know how to reset or clear those little hand-held maps that are in-game.

Surely there must be a way to do this?

    Not in vanilla.

If you want an empty map that you can use at a new spot you can make a new one.

If you want the map to cover the same area but be updated you'll have to carry it (or a copy) back to the area it depicts and run around holding it to update it.

I've heard it's possible I'm just not sure how. I'd imagine you'd have to edit the file name of the map (Not the Minecraft save file, but the bit of files that logs Map. But if someone that knows could confirm this that would be awesome.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use creative mode or a command to give yourself a stack of fresh maps?

    But why bother?
Crafting a map takes 1 redstone, 4 iron ingots and 8 pieces of paper, more paper if you want it zoomed out.
Unless you REALLY hate mining I don't see that as that big a deal.
